Dry eye disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) often go hand in hand, with MGD being a significant cause of dry eye symptoms. MGD occurs when the meibomian glands in the eyelids, responsible for secreting oils that prevent tears from evaporating, become blocked or clogged. This dysfunction can lead to insufficient tear film stability, resulting in eye dryness, irritation, blurred vision, and discomfort. MGD is common in individuals exposed to dry environments, high screen time, or hormonal changes, which can affect the glands’ oil production. Treatments like radiofrequency (RF) and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) have shown promising results in managing both dry eye and MGD.
